#4 From chicken fat to biodiesel, thanks to nanocatalysis-based synthesis

In Iran, researchers from the Islamic Azad University of Bushehr used nano-calcium oxide catalyst to produce biodiesel from chicken fat, making it a low cost and lower pollution option than diesel derived from crude oil.

“In this research, biodiesel was produced using chicken fat in the presence of calcium oxide nano-catalyst. To do so, the effect of various parameters like temperature, reaction time, catalyst amount and methanol to oil ratio was investigated on the biodiesel production,” Hossein Esmayeeli, one of the researchers, told IFP News. He said the key advantage of using synthesized nanocatalyst is its high productivity in producing biodiesel.
