US ethanol exports to China finding creative trade routes despite trade war

In China, in response to the ongoing trade war with the US which has dampened imports of ethanol among other products such as soy, Platts reports that ethanol was imported from Malaysia and Indonesia, neither of which have ethanol industries of any meaningful scale. Data from the General Administration of Customs shows, in its first reporting since April, that Indonesia exported more than 35,000 cu m of ethanol to China in July while Malaysia exported 60,055 cu m in August and 28,303 cu m in September, all of which is expected to have originated in the US.
