India’s plans for methanol held up because they run counter to ethanol mandate

In India, the Economic Times of India reports that the push to blend methanol at 15% has been held up by procedural internal delays but there may be more behind the issue because the plan seeks to blend methanol exclusively instead of blending with ethanol as is currently done. There are four domestic methanol producers who can produce at less than half of the cost of ethanol. Currently methanol is manufactured from domestic coal but could be produced from bio-sources eventually as well.
