Colombian ethanol production pressured by cheap US ethanol imports

In Colombia, Platts reports that cheap ethanol imports from the US have seriously weighed on the domestic industry’s ability to compete, producing nearly 342 million liters this year through October. Although production was more than 10% higher than the same period last year, production still remains well below installed production capacity. Ethanol production between January and October 2016 was 434.4 million liters, the same year a free trade agreement was signed between the US and Colombia that led to an increase in US ethanol imports.
