India looking to boost ethanol prices again to help sugar mills

December 24, 2018 |

In India, the Economic Times reports that the food ministry is consulting with the Prime Minister’s Office in an attempt to get ethanol prices raised further in an effort to improve liquidity for cane mills that will in turn allow them to pay mounting debts to cane farmers. Grain-based ethanol would also benefit from higher ethanol prices, not just ethanol produced from molasses. Prices were already increased 25% in September. Ethanol production is seen nearing its installed capacity of 2.8 billion liters to nearly 2.6 billion liters this season, compared to just 1.5 billion liters in 2017/18.
