Oilseeds and European biodiesel crushing only bright spots to Cargill’s Q2 losses

In Illinois, Reuters reports that oilseeds were Cargill’s bright spot for fiscal Q2 following reporting that saw net earnings fall 20% on the year. Biodiesel production in Europe was one of the company’s highlights in addition to strong crushing in both Europe and North America along with grain exports from North America. With soybeans at 11-year lows, crushers like Cargill have benefited from strong margins thanks to increased demand for soymeal. All of the company’s other business units saw losses, however.
