Final version of EU RED II published

January 13, 2019 |

In Germany, UFOP reports that the final version of the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (RED II) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Member States must transpose the Directive into national law by End of June 2021. It should be noted that third countries are also affected for the export of raw materials for biofuel production, for the export of biofuels and now also for the export of solid biomass for energy use.

The Appendices have been amended accordingly insofar as these relate to the use of biomass for energy purposes and for offsetting against the European Union’s energy target. As you know, the field of biofuels in particular has been the subject of intensive discussion. The discussion will be continued at UFOP’s 16th International Congress Fuels of the Future 2019.
