Total says French palm oil ban potentially jeopardizes Le Mede biorefinery

In France, Reuters reports that the country’s ban on using palm oil for biofuel could risk the viability of Total’s La Mede refinery it has spent $316 million to convert to HVO production. Following protests from local farmers, the company shifted its feedstock plans to use less than half of its total demand from palm oil with the rest coming from domestic rapeseed and used cooking oil but the company’s CEO told the Le Figaro newspaper that dropping palm oil all together potentially jeopardizes the project.
