Fonterra using tallow-based biodiesel in 150 milk tanker trucks

March 13, 2019 |

In New Zealand, Fonterra is now using tallow-based biodiesel produced by Z Energy in 150 of its milk tankers in an effort to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of its products. Although there is a small premium paid for the biodiesel versus fossil diesel, the dairy cooperative was one of the biofuel producer’s foundation clients who made an early commitment to using the fuel and providing a market for it. Z Energy can produce 20 million liters of biodiesel annually, reducing GHG emissions in New Zealand by 37,000 metric tons per year.
