#4 New cigarettes good for the environment (but still bad for you)

In South Africa, Smokey Treats has launched an eco-friendly cigarette that replaces plastics with biodegradable materials.

Founders Davide Scott and Adam van Wyngaarden say their company uses biodegradable, unbleached wood pulp in the cigarettes, wrapper and boxes, and soy-based ink in its packaging graphics. They claim the wood pulp is a better filter than those used in standard cigarettes.

The tobacco is ethically sourced in Africa and no additives are used. One percent of the profits are used to promote reforestation in the region.

Approximately 2 million cigarette butts are discarded annually.
