EPA receives waiver application input from DOE but no date on decisions

May 2, 2019 |

In Washington, Reuters reports that the Environmental Protection Agency has at last received input from the Department of Energy on its recommendations regarding the 2018 hardship waiver applications submitted by smaller refineries. There are currently 40 outstanding applications awaiting decision from the 2018 compliance year. The long-awaited decision could come around the end of May but neither agency is giving any insight into the timeline. For 2017, the EPA approved all 35 waiver applications but the EPA Administrator told the press last month that with RIN prices much lower than before, the agency may not approve all of the applications for 2018.
