#4 Givaudan buys AMSilk’s cosmetics business

In Germany, flavor, fragrance and cosmetics giant Givaudan has acquired the cosmetics business of AMSilk GmbH, a producer of vegan silk biopolymers, for an undisclosed sum. AMSilk’s biopolymers have several applications in categories like hair and skin care, endowing produces with “silk touch,” anti-pollution, or color protection of the hair.

“The acquisition of the cosmetics business of AMSilk fits very well our long-term strategy for Active Beauty,” says Maurizio Volpi, President of Givaudan’s Fragrance Division. “It offers an expanded portfolio of natural and biosourced products supported by a strong research and development biotechnology platform to drive future development and innovation in the active cosmetic ingredients space. Their expertise in biotechnology is fully aligned with ours; it will reinforce Givaudan’s capabilities in cosmetic ingredients to support our customers in developing sustainable, performant and safe products.”

Other applications for AMSilk’s biopolymers include textiles and medical devices.
