Soybean oil use for biodiesel doubled between 2010/11 and 2017/18

In Washington, China’s Xinhua news agency reports that Energy Information Administration data shows a doubling of soybean oil use for biodiesel production between 2010/11 and 2017/18 to 22.5 billion pounds. During that time, total biodiesel production grew to 1.8 billion gallons from just 700 million gallons. A bit more than half of biodiesel production comes from soybean oil while vegetable oils overall account for about three-quarters of feedstocks across the board. The Renewable Fuel Standard has been the main driver for increase biodiesel production and demand.
