In China, local news reports that as of Tuesday Shanghai’s biodiesel bus program will kick off with 2,000 city buses running on B5 sourced from used cooking oil. The city alone produces 30,000 metric tons per year of UCO so the city is trying to promote diversion of the overused UCO known as gutter oil to biodiesel production. The city’s new program will use 22,000 tons of B5 this year. Nearly 250 filling stations in Shanghai were selling B5 as of the end of April.
