Spanish terminal operator looking to expand biofuel storage ahead of 2020 mandates

May 14, 2019 |

In Spain, Tank Storage Magazine reports that terminal operator Tepsa is looking to expand its used cooking oil storage as well as ethanol storage at the four Spanish terminals that it operates on the back of the Renewable Energy Directive’s mandate for 10% renewable blending in transportation by 2020. Even though the new RED that extends through 2030 has a carbon reduction mandate rather than volumetric blending mandate, as well as caps on UCO-based biodiesel and crop-based biofuels, the company says demand for capacity is growing. Currently, 15% of its storage capacity across terminals in Barcelona, Tarragona, Valencia and Bilbao is dedicated to ethanol and biodiesel.
