Kenyan authorities nab smuggled ethanol dressed up as spaghetti

May 15, 2019 |

In Kenya, local press reports that customs authorities have nabbed nearly 60,000 liters of illegally-imported ethanol originating from the UAE that was identified as spaghetti—and even surrounded by more than 10,000 packets of spaghetti to hide it—in an effort to avoid paying taxes. Clearing agents and the importer responsible for the shipment are currently under investigation by customs authorities in conjunction with national law enforcement following recent arrest of customs officials for facilitating tax evasion fraud.
