Maharashtra government to allocate 100ha for paddy straw ethanol and biogas project

In India, the Times of India newspaper reports that the Maharashtra government has allowed the transfer of 100ha of land to be transferred and used for the building of a paddy straw-based ethanol plant and biogas project. More than 700,000 metric tons of paddy straw is available annually in the two districts adjoining the allocated land for the project. Currently the straw is burned, not having any other practical use but it causes negative impacts on both the environment and public health.
