Heathrow calls for more action on aviation biofuels at UN and UK level

July 23, 2019 |

In the UK, Heathrow Airport supports the goal of net zero carbon by 2050 and as such is calling on the UN’s aviation body ICAO to set targets for the use of biofuels in aviation, as recommended by the Energy Transition Commission. The airport is also calling on the UK government to invest some of the nearly GBP4 billion annual revenue raised from Air Passenger Duty to scale-up production of sustainable fuels. Heathrow has fueled and received numerous test flights and commercial flights on aviation biofuel blends since 2008.
