JBS to double biodiesel production with new $47.5 million facility

In Brazil, Reuters reports that meat processing giant JBS is going to invest $47.5 million in a biodiesel plant using pork and poultry fat and processing scraps from its Seara facility in Santa Catarina state. When the plant comes online in 2021, it will double the company’s biodiesel production capacity to 600 million liters annually. The company is looking to RenovaBio as a key driver for the investment with biodiesel blending seen reaching 15% in 2023 from the current 10%.
