IPCC report seen slamming biofuels and mass reforestation over food security impacts this week

August 5, 2019 |

In Germany, Agence France Presse reports that the International Panel on Climate Change is set to release a major report on Thursday that will change the conversation on biofuels from one of “win-win” to “trade-offs” between biofuels, food security and forests, saying that major land use changes to biofuel production and forests for carbon sinks could have potentially irreversible consequences for the environment and food security. One of the report’s co-authors suggests that cutting food waste and a plant-based diet is the way to keep the planet below the 1.5C scenario.
