Ethanol brings down price of gasoline at the pump below biodiesel in Zimbabwe

August 13, 2019 |

In Zimbabwe, the national broadcasting corporation reports that the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority says prices for gasoline blended with 10% ethanol have fallen below diesel prices at the pump which typically doesn’t happen. Using 150,000 liters per day of domestic ethanol reduces the foreign exchange burden on the country’s already challenged economy. The country has at times blended 15% ethanol and as little as 5% but the blending ratio depends on supply availability which can be negatively impacted by rains, inhibiting harvesting of sugarcane.
