Chinese to invest $620 million in Gabon cassava-based ethanol project

September 17, 2019 |

In Gabon, local press reports that Chinese investors are set to plow $620 million into a facility that will produce 300,000 metric tons of ethanol from cassava annually. The 900,000 tons of feedstock required annually from the project will be grown on 83,000 hectares of land for plantation that the government must give over, but it won’t have to invest any cash. It’s not clear where the project is located or what plans there may be to relocate those currently living on that land.
