Q: What was the reason for founding your organization – what was the open niche you saw that could be addressed with a new product or service? What was the problem, or gap, or opportunity?

Certain petroleum solvents present regulatory and HS&E restrictions for manufacturers using solvents in formulations or cleaning applications.

Vertec BioSolvents, Inc. was founded in 1999 to provide technology innovations using safe bio-based solvent blends to directly replace unsafe petroleum solvents. As the market demand for safe alternatives to dangerous solvents increased, VertecBio(TM) solvent blends were invented, patented, and commercially launched to service coatings, adhesives, agricultural and petroleum industries, and other markets.

Q: Tell us about your organization. What do you do?

Vertec BioSolvents allows customers to provide safe work environments for employees, safe alternatives for products they manufacture and market. We invent, patent and manufacture solvent formulations containing biosolvents and safe alternative solvents.

One VertecBio product is used in a formulation that replaces n-Methyl Pyrrolidone and Methylene Chloride, both products that are facing existing and pending restrictions in usage.

Another product is widely used as an alternative to Xylene in coatings, eliminating customers’ requirements for listing Proposition 65 warnings on their labels.

Commercial stage – have mature products or services on the market.

Innovation state – we are currently innovating bio-derived products for the cosmetic and personal care markets.

Q: What do your technologies, products or services do and accomplish – how does it (they) work, who is it (they) aimed for?

The primary feature of our products is performance. Our product innovation requires that bio-based solvent formulations must deliver performance and value. Despite eliminating regulatory brick walls for our customers, VertecBio products must meet or exceed performance parameters of the petroleum solvents that are replaced in the formulas or cleaning applications.
