Trump says biofuel/oil negotiations more difficult than dealing with Taliban

September 20, 2019 |

In Washington, D.C., President Trump met with senators from several oil states, after meeting with biofuel-supporting farm state senators, and reportedly said the negotiations “were more difficult than dealing with the Taliban,” according to Bloomberg.

The Thursday White House meeting was an attempt by oil states to discourage Trump from pushing forward ethanol and biodiesel volumes and a biofuel plan. But Trump told the oil-rich state senators that he was “getting killed” over the small refinery waivers and had to do something to keep farm states happy, according to Bloomberg.

The oil-state senators reportedly asked Trump to continue granting small refinery waivers and that pushing up biofuel quotas too far could increase RIN prices.
