India looking to reactivate cane land to boost feedstock supply for ethanol production

September 23, 2019 |

In India, the Press Trust of India reports that the government plans to use lands attached to mothballed sugarcane mills to grow more cane as feedstock for expanding ethanol production. The national transportation minister says the ethanol industry has the capacity to grow four-fold to more than $14 billion. He said the government has already come to an agreement with German development bank KFW to fund green energy for small and micro businesses so plans to go back to them in order to secure funds for reviving the sugarcane lands from defunct mills.
