Earthquake may be to blame for giant ethanol fire at California fuel storage facility

October 16, 2019 |

In California, local press reports that around 250,000 gallons stored in two tanks were destroyed during a major fire that broke out at the NuStar storage facility in Crockett out of the 24 tanks at the tank farm that holds ethanol, gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel. Investigations are now underway to see if the explosion was triggered by an earthquake that took place about 15 hours prior 15 miles from the facility. More than 200 firefighters battled the blaze using foams and water but the ethanol kept reigniting.
