Two vessels carrying Brazilian ethanol waiting in San Francisco Bay to offload following NuStar force majeure

October 23, 2019 |

In California, Platts reports that following force majeure declared last week by NuStar after two of its ethanol tanks burst into flames, potentially as a result of an earthquake earlier in the day, a pair of tankers carrying Brazilian ethanol are waiting in San Francisco Bay to discharge with nowhere to drop their cargo. Although the company says its tanks were only 1% full with ethanol with the fires happened, as it is the only facility in the Bay Area able to discharge ethanol, the tankers must wait until repairs are done to get the facility up and running again.
