Increased biodiesel mandates leading to global glycerin supply glut

In Spain, ICIS reports that the global glycerin supply glut is expected to continue on the back of ever-rising biodiesel mandates, further weighing on refined glycerin margins as demand for new products using the material aren’t coming to market at the same speed as additional supplies. Personal and oral care products have traditionally been the main market for glycerin but there were hopes that China’s growing demand for epichlorohydrin could help ease some of the pressure, but the ongoing trade war between the US and China has weakened demand.
