Malaysia helping to create smallholder oil palm cooperatives to organize production

In Malaysia, the Malay Mail newspaper reports that the government plans to help smallholder oil palm farmers set up cooperatives in an effort to improve production planning and in turn increase efficiency in the sector. Ten cooperatives have already been set up with seed funding from the national palm oil board but it’s too soon to tell what the results will be. The country has been challenged with managing its palm oil supplies which are often too many, weighing on prices and causing problems for farmers.
