TNO’s seaweed ethanol fuels Danish research vehicle achieving 80 km/h

November 20, 2019 |

In the Netherlands, TNO has produced ethanol from seaweed and algae that went on to power a car in Denmark that achieved speeds of 80 km/h as part of the MacroFuels EU-funded project. Researchers were unsure that fuels produced from seaweed would function the same as other fuels and were concerned about the impacts on the car’s motor, but tests results show that the seaweed-based ethanol is the same. Seaweed is quick and easy to grow, making it an exciting feedstock for fuel as well as bioplastics and other products.
