TEA Tornado Plot, Technical Hurdles, and Driving Down MFSP: The Digest’s 2019 Multi-Slide Guide to NREL’s Algal Biomass

November 25, 2019 |

The commercialization of algae has several challenges, but Lieve M. Laurens from National Renewable Energy Laboratory gave this illuminating presentation at the DOE’s BETO 2019 Project Peer Review that details how they are trying to reduce the cost of algal biofuels by increasing intrinsic algal biomass value.

Their end of project goal is to build a co-product portfolio that, when integrated in a production and conversion pathway, can increase the intrinsic value of algal biomass by at least 30% of biomass cost value for a set of model species. Get the details on the technical hurdles, project milestones thus far, collaboration with TEA, the latest research results, and more.
