Neste launches Christmas ham fat collection campaign

November 26, 2019 |

In Finland, The Ham Trick campaign (Kinkkutemppu in Finnish) will be executed once again to demonstrate circular economy in a concrete way. For the fourth year in a row in Finland, ham waste fat and other waste fats from Christmas dishes can be recycled for the production of Neste MY Renewable Diesel™. Last year, 185,000 Finnish households participated in the Ham Trick. The goal for this year is to increase the number of participants to 200,000.

Neste will use the collected Christmas ham waste fat at the Porvoo refinery to make Neste MY Renewable Diesel. It enables motorists to decrease their carbon footprint by up to 90%, compared to the use of fossil diesel. Over 100,000 kilograms of used cooking waste fat has been recycled through the Ham Trick campaigns during the past three Christmas seasons. The renewable diesel produced from this amount is enough to drive about 250 times the distance between Hanko and Nuorgam.
