In New Zealand, the Herald newspaper reports that NZ Bio Forestry has been awarded an NZ$380,000 Provincial Growth Fund grant to research whether radiata pine could be an appropriate feedstock for biodegradable bioplastic. The project is meant to be co-located with a new tree processing facility in Marton. Taiwanese technology will be employed to produce polymers from forestry waste that will later be turned into bioplastic. The technology is already at commercial scale in Taiwan.
