India may release grains for biofuel feedstock

In India, the Economic Times newspaper reports that the as the Food Corporation of India is holding almost twice the minimum stock levels for wheat and rice required, the government is exploring the possible release of grains as feedstock for biofuel, especially to make room for new crop wheat in April. Corn and millets are also in excess and under consideration for release as feedstock. The distillation industry says it has installed capacity to produce 1 billion liters per year of ethanol from grains but require low feedstock prices to do so.
