Finnish researchers look at ecosystem service gaps in LCAs

December 24, 2019 |

In Finland, researchers from the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science have published a review looking at how lifecycle assessments treat the accounting of multiple ecosystem service-related issues and the limitations they provide at both the land-use and supply chain levels in the forest-based bioeconomy in North America and Europe. Analysing more than 600 articles through a systematic review process, several ecosystem services including cultural ones were found to be lacking in LCA processes with the focus primarily being on climate change assessments.
