As many as 20 Maharashtra sugar mills seen diverting B-heavy molasses to ethanol

January 2, 2020 |

In India, the Press Trust of India reports Indian Sugar Mills Association data shows that as many as 20 sugar mills in Maharashtra are diverting B-heavy molasses to ethanol in line with the government’s intent to not just reduce sugar production in the face of low global and domestic sugar prices but also to increase availability of ethanol for blending. The volume of ethanol produced so far this season wasn’t reported in the monthly data. So far, the cane crush is the smallest seen in five years.
