Q: What was the reason for founding your organization – what was the open niche you saw that could be addressed with a new product or service? What was the problem, or gap, or opportunity?

The world’s growing need natural therapeutics can’t be satisfied by plant sources alone and the economics from plants preclude many from broad distribution and consumer access. In fact, more than 15,000 medicinal plants are facing extinction from climate change. Plus, many medicinal plants cannot be domesticated, rendering supply unreliable and non-scalable, further exacerbating the problem, We formed Purissima to address these issues by evolving microorganisms, which themselves are progenitors to all higher plant life on the planet, to bring healthy, sustainably produced and cost effective therapeutic products that support health and well-being to the world.

Q: Tell us about your organization. What do you do?

We evolve microorganisms to encourage production of valuable therapeutics used to support health and alleviate suffering by people inflicted by a wide range of conditions, such as anxiety, insomnia, pain and cancer to name only a few.

Pilot stage – proven at small, non-integrated scale.

Q: What do your technologies, products or services do and accomplish – how does it (they) work, who is it (they) aimed for?

Our platform technology reduces the reliance on plants for medicines and therapeutics and brings a production cycle down to days from months by growing organisms in industrial fermenters – organisms that have been evolved to produce exactly what we want in a sustainable, reproducible, scalable and cost-effective manner and at purities that make them suitable for use as actives in pharmaceuticals.

Q: Competitively, what gives your technology, product or service set an edge in cost or performance, sustainability, or any other aspect, that makes it stand out from the crowd, In short, what makes it transformative?

Our platform is unique in our ability to coax and to steer the production of key ingredients using an organism uniquely suited to the task. We’re enabling the use of land for food and other important needs and fermenters for production of healthy living, natural ingredients.

Q: What are the top milestones you have accomplished in the past 3 years?

We formed the company in 2017 and proved the concept by early 2018. We’re scaling production now.

Q: What are the top milestones you will accomplish in the next 3 years?

We plan to be providing samples in 2020 and selling commercially in 2021.
