Sao Martinho looking at integrating corn for ethanol production at world’s largest sugar mill

February 12, 2020 |

In Brazil, Reuters reports that Sao Martinho is considering the integration of corn as ethanol feedstock at its Pradopolis mill, the largest sugarcane processing facility in the world. Doing so would allow it to produce ethanol year-round, taking advantage of high prices during the inter-harvest season of January through March as several other producers in the country have begun to do successfully. Where the mill is located isn’t a traditional corn producer, however, so feedstock would have to be brought in from the center-west which is the main logistics issue under investigation regarding the potential for inclusion of corn processing at the sugar mill.
