Thai government to subsidize B10 while adding levy to B7 to encourage switch

March 3, 2020 |

In Thailand, the Bangkok Post newspaper reports that the government has increased the price of B7 in an effort to make B10 and B20 comparatively cheaper and lure drivers towards the higher blends. B7 is set to be phased out. The Oil Fuel Fund Office is providing the funds for the subsidy scheme that will be paid for by a levy imposed on B7 but the total overall expenditure on biofuel subsidies will double. The subsidy on B10 is expected to drive consumption to 52 million liters per day from the current 5.3 million liters compared to B7 consumption of 66 million liters per day which should fall to 8 million liters following application of the levy.
