Hydrous ethanol sugar equivalency falls to lowest level in five years

March 19, 2020 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that in terms of sugar equivalency, hydrous ethanol prices are at their lowest level in five years at the equivalent of 9.87 cents per pound and is the lowest since Platts started tracking the price in 2014. The previous low was 10.05 cents/lb. Until recently, the ethanol parity level where mills decide to produce ethanol rather than sugar was estimated at around 14 cents but with the recent fluctuations of the US dollar due to falling oil prices and coronavirus, that level is now thought to be around 12 cents.
