Indonesian biodiesel consumption at 2.1 billion liters during Q1

April 15, 2020 |

In Indonesia, Reuters reports that biodiesel consumption will likely be hit as people are quarantined in their home and transportation demand falls drastically, although it is unclear how much demand destruction there will be. The director of bioenergy at the energy ministry said biodiesel consumption was at 2.1 billion liters between January and March. Annual consumption was pegged at 9.6 billion liters for 2020 before COVID-19 hit the country. Falling demand could increase palm oil availability and in turn weigh on prices, but the virus’ impact on farm labor and therefore production figures hasn’t yet been figured out.
