Analysts say Malaysian palm oil industry to be hit hard in 2021 by B20 roll out freeze

April 20, 2020 |

In Malaysia, the Sun newspaper reports that CGS CIMB Research says suspending the roll out of the 20% biodiesel blending mandate as announced last week will likely have significant impacts on the palm oil industry next year when the loss in demand will be most strongly felt. With demand for B20 in transport and B7 in industrial usage estimated at 1.3 million metric tons annually after full roll out, slowing down the implementation could mean an increase of just 64,000 tons in 2021 compared to previous estimates of 292,000 tons.
