Romania pulls back from biofuel blending mandate during state of emergency

April 21, 2020 |

In Romania, Euractiv reports the government approved changes to its legislation on April 9 allowing for reductions of biofuel blending for as long as the country remains in a state of emergency which is currently set until mid-May. The country imports 100% of its ethanol demand but just 30% of biofuel blended with fossil diesel. Ethanol Europe has expressed concern that if Romania and other central and eastern European countries which are suspending blending mandates due to the global pandemic could have later impacts on how much biofuel is blended through 2030.
