In India, the Statesman newspaper reports that the head of the opposition has slammed the government’s decision to allow the use of surplus rice for ethanol production that will be used for hand sanitizers and fuel. He accused the government of taking away staple food from the poor while producing hand sanitizers for the rich, a move he says will lead to the poor dying from hunger. The national biofuel policy allows for the use of surplus food crops to be used for biofuel production.
