Lincolnway Energy starts ethanol production up to supply CO2 for water treatment

April 27, 2020 |

In Iowa, the Des Moines Register newspaper reports that Lincolnway Energy has restarted ethanol and CO2 production earlier this month in an effort to provide CO2 to Des Moines Water Works. The utility was at risk of having no access to CO2 to soften the city’s hard water, improving the quality of water, following the closure of ethanol plants across the Midwest. Without CO2, water is still safe for humans to drink but of lower quality.
