Higher EU blending mandates seen filling gap for COVID-19 demand hit

In Malaysia, The Edge Markets reports that Lipidos Santiga SA said in a webinar organized by the Malaysia Palm Oil Council that EU biodiesel consumption should hold steady this year despite impacts of COVID-19. Trucks and public transport kept up demand for diesel and therefore biodiesel during the peak of the lockdown period implemented to slow the spread of the pandemic. Although overall diesel demand is expected to fall by as much as 20% this year, increased blending due to the Renewable Energy Directive 2020 mandates should help to fill some of the demand gap.
