Brazil temporarily cuts biodiesel blend to 10% due to supply shortage

June 17, 2020 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that despite the country seeking to have the biodiesel blending mandate raised to 13% to make up for lost demand from COVID-19, the ANP fuel regulator has instead cut it to 10% from the current 12%. The cut in blending is only going to be for five days, however, saying the emergency ruling was required due to a short-term gap in biodiesel supplies. Despite the pandemic that kept many people at home and significantly reduced demand for gasoline, and therefore ethanol, the lockdown coincided with the start of the sugarcane crush which required an increased volume of diesel and biodiesel.
