EPA received 52 SRE “gap” requests

June 18, 2020 |

In Washington, Reuters reports that the Environmental Protection Agency has published data showing it has received 52 new “gap” requests for small refinery exemptions for between 2011 and 2018. The biofuel industry and advocates in Washington have been concerned about the existence of these gap waivers piling up but the EPA hadn’t so far revealed anything about them, with the administrator saying earlier this week he didn’t know how many there were. The 10th Circuit Court ruled in January that refineries couldn’t only get waivers if they were extensions and many had not applied for waivers every year, so now they’re trying to get these “gaps” filled in an effort to not lose the waivers they’ve already received.
