Canada looking to delay implementation of low carbon fuel standard

June 23, 2020 |

In Canada, the Canadian Press newspaper reports that the environment minister is using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to ease the implementation of the national low carbon fuel standard. He says the policy will be fully rolled out by 2030 but that more biofuel blending will be required by 2026 to make up for laxer restrictions on carbon emissions during the first part of the decade. The policy was meant to come into effect in 2022 but already in March the oil industry asked for the policy to be delayed to 2025 and 2026 depending on the fuel type.
