Malaysia joins Indonesia’s WTO complaint against EU over palm oil

July 1, 2020 |

In Malaysia, Reuters reports the government will act as a third party in Indonesia’s existing complaint against the European Union for its trade practices against palm oil. Malaysia has been threatening such a complaint for well over a year while the European Union has remained confident that it would win should a complaint be brought against the trade bloc. The EU has decided to phase out the use of palm oil in biofuel by 2030 in an effort to battle deforestation related to oil palm farming.
